case you haven't heard, our classroom won a pizza party for having the most donations for the food pantry. We have also reached
the ceiling in our "Caught you being good" campaign so we will be celebrating on Tuesday with the pizza and a movie/pajama
party. Congratulations fourth graders for all your hard work!

food pantry drive. West Elementary brought in 1100 pounds of food for the donation.IF you did not return your conference
slip last week please get that in by Tuesday so that the final schedule can be finalized.

Amy Gustafson will be joining our classroom to complete her student teaching. We are very excited to have her in our room.A
few of the UNI basketball players will be joining West Elementary Monday afternoon to talk about good character and help us
award the Kids of Character and the Classrooms of Character for our Respect Pillar.

10/11/2009 We will begin taking our Fall NWEA tests this week. Students will be taking the Reading, Math and Language
Arts test this week and the Science test next Monday.This Wednesday, Oct. 14th is an early dismissal at 1 p.m.
It is
definitely cooler both inside the building and outside for recess. Students need to be sure to dress appropriately.

7/27/2009 Teachers just wanted to let you know I am working on a whole new teacher site. This site is replacing the
few pages that were originally part of our classroom site. I plan to put more resource material and links in the new site.

7/12/2009 Summer has been
flying by! I have been busy working on classes for my Master's program. Classes wrap up in a few weeks and I will be starting
the updates on the site for the new school year. Hope everyone's summer is going well.
5/24/2009 Can you believe this is our
last week of school! The year has gone by so quickly. Tuesday afternoon we will be going to the theater to see the new movie
"Battle for the Smithsonian" as a reward for our reading efforts this year.
On Wednesday we will be having our fourth
grade ice cream party. A note will be coming home on Tuesday with more information about that.
Thursday is our last
day of classes. It is an early dismissal. Report cards will be sent home with the students that day. It has been a great
year. I hope you all have a wonderful summer!

3/22/2009 While students have been given the okay to leave their boots at home, the recent snowfall and the snowy/wet
forecast for this week means the playground will be muddy, boots would be a wise accessory to have. Also, be sure to dress
for the weather. Coats and layers are still a good idea.We will be continuing our spring round of NWEA testing this week
due to technical difficulties last week.

bring in Valentines but they may chose not to if they would rather not. I do ask that if they bring Valentines they bring

1/18/2009 Well - last week was certainly crazy wasn't it? Because we lost three days of school, ITBS will be postponed
until next week, January 26 to January 30. If anyone could help out by providing the class with a healthy snack during ITBS
please contact me. We try to have a snack and drink after each day's testing session to rejuvenate our brains before we tackle
the rest of our day.We will have our Care Center visit this Wednesday.

be finished with our ITBS testing Monday morning. The students have been doing a great job despite the craziness of last

6/13/2007 Summer vacation
has officially arrived at my house. Last week saw me working with the other k-5 teachers writing our new language arts and
social studies curriculum, as well as clearing out the classroom for summer painting. I will be starting some revamping of

5/27/2007 Can you believe it is the last week of school! I hate to say good-bye to the class, but I know they are ready
to move on. The class has made their final goals for the year in Accelerated Math and with their independent reading, so
we will be having ice cream and pizza this week. Students may bring a drink of their choice on Thursday to go with their
pizza, and I will be purchasing ice cream on Friday with their lunch.
As the end of the year rapidly approaches, please
be on the lookout for books and other materials that belong to the classroom. Also, all school library books were due last
week, we do have a few stragglers so please get those turned back in. Thank you so much with your help getting things sent
back to school. Should you find anything over the summer, you can drop it off next fall.
5/20/2007 Track and Field day is this
Wednesday, May 23rd from 8:30 - 12:30. We hope to see many of you there. I see there is a chance for thunderstorms/rain on
Wednesday. Should we have to postpone, Track and Field would then be held on Friday, May 25 at the same time.
As the end

5/13/2007 Students need to bring a small box(shoe
box or kleenex sized)on Wednesday to bring home their clay project from art.

5/6/2007 We have another full week of activities going
on in fourth grade. Remember, this Friday, May 11th is the deadline for lunch reservations
for our Track and Field day. You can call those into Mrs. Hess in the office.
Wednesday is early dismissal at 1 P.M.
Be
sure to check out our honors pages the students are doing a phenomenal job with both their math and reading. We have an extra
incentive going to keep our momentum going.
4/29/2007 It is unbelievable that the first of May is this week! My goodness
how quickly this year has flown by! We will bid a sad farewell to Mrs. Quigley, our student teacher on Friday. We have really
enjoyed having her in our room and wish her the best in the future.
Students brought home a letter explaining the new set
up for our annual Track and Field Day held at the end of the year. Please get your reservations for lunch in as soon as possible.
The deadline for those reservations is Friday, May 11th. The students are excited
about all the events. We look forward to seeing you then.
4/16/2007 Hopefully this week will be calmer than last
week! Third trimester midterm grades will be sent home today. Please try to return them by Wednesday. If you have any questions,
please contact me.
Reminder that we do have early dismissal on Wednesday at 1 P.M.
4/11/2007 Crazy Spring weather today!
Be sure to dress appropriately for recess tomorrow. We'll definitely need boots and other winter wear! Hope you all enjoyed
your extra day off.
3/30/2007 It will be a fast week next week. Remember we do not have school on Friday, April 6 or Monday, April 9th for
Spring Break. I hope everyone enjoys their long weekend. As you know, the students at West are raising money for the Pennies
for Patients Fund. So far we have raised a total of $1,070.88. The students (and staff) enjoyed Mr. Lyons getting creamed
at Friday's assembly. We still have one more week to bring in those pennies. We are so very proud of the children's willingness
to step forward and help others.
3/25/2007 The weather is turning nicer-thank heavens! Although it is tempting to started dressing for hot days, students
should continue to bring boots and heavy coats or sweatshirts for recess. Layering clothes is the best solution as we can
always take off a layer or two if it does get warm. A note will be sent home when boots are no longer required on the playground.Students
are participating in the Pennies for Patients fund drive. We will be continuing the drive for two more weeks. We are so
proud of the way our students here at West step up to help those who are in need.
3/18/2007 Hurray- some spring like weather
has finally arrived! Along with the nice weather, Mrs. Quigley, our student teacher, as also joined us. We are very happy
to have her in class.
Remember we have early dismissal on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
3/9/2007 We had a very busy week. Thank
you all you made it in for conferences. I enjoyed visiting with each of you.
We held our Read-A-Thon today. Students
who forgot their envelopes may still return them next week. Remember, this is a way for us to raise money to purchase new
books for our library. We appreciate your support with this. Also, the Life Touch photos that went home earlier this week
also need to be returned next week. Please send the money or the pictures back to school.
On Tuesday, Mrs. Quigley will
be joining our classroom as a student teacher. We are looking forward to having her in our class.
