6/8/2010 I hope everyone
is off to a great summer vacation! Graduation is over at my house so I'm ready to relax! (: I will be doing updates off
and on throughout the summer so I hope you'll keep checking in.
5/21/2010 Can you believe we only have 6 days of
school left? We have a very busy week ahead. Monday will be our final Character Counts assembly for the year. Wednesday
will be the fourth grade ice cream party for our grade level reading celebration. A note will be coming home on Monday for
volunteers to bring in toppings. Friday is the school wide reading celebration. Students who have met the goal for this trimester
will be viewing a movie in the gym and having a sidewalk party afterward. Students who at least met half of the goal will
get to see the movie, but will not be able to participate in the sidewalk party. Remember to turn in your reading slips on
Monday!
5/7/2010 We have early dismissal Wednesday, May 12 at 1 p.m.
The year is quickly winding down. Be sure to stay
focused and complete your work on time.
4/23/2010 Midterms for the final trimester will be coming home Monday.
Please sign and return those as soon as you can.

Book orders will
be due back Tues. May 4. This is the last order I will send out for this year.
4/19/2010 We have finished up our NWEA
testing for the year. The results for both NWEA and ITBS will be sent home in the mail sometime in the next two weeks. I
am very pleased with the progress all the students have made!
Midterms for the final trimester will be coming out soon,
so be on the look out for those.
4/11/2010 We will begin taking the Spring NWEA tests on Monday. These are the computer generated tests that students
take twice each year.
We have early dismissal on Wednesday, April 14th at 1 p.m.
4/4/2010 Reminder we do have school on
Monday, April 5th as a snow make-up day.
The students did an awesome job with our Reading March Madness! We reached over
550 AR points and most of the students meet their individual goal. To celebrate our success we will be having our pizza party
on Friday, April 9. Keep reading fourth graders!
3/26/2010 Wednesday will be our Movie fundraiser. All the students at West
will be watching the Final Season. Students may bring a blanket or a pillow to sit on. There is also a freewill donation
to help raise money for the victims of the recent earthquakes in Chili and Haiti.
Students are doing a fabulous job with
our Reading March Madness. We have reached our class goal and many students have completed their individual goals! Way to
read fourth graders!
No school on Friday for spring break. Have a terrific Easter!
3/19/2010 If you are purchasing the LifeTouch
pictures, please have the money turned in by Wednesday, March 24. If you are not purchasing these photos, please turn the
package by Wednesday so we can get these all taken care of.

3/14/2010 It is starting
to feel more like spring. Students still need to have boots for recess as the playground is very muddy. Be sure to dress
in layers as it is cooler in the morning and at times in the classroom.
We will be attending a matinee performance of the
high school's musical on Wednesday. We will be leaving West at 12:30 and returning to the building at 2:30.

Conferences are Monday from noon until 8 p.m and Tuesday from 3:30 until 6 p.m. Below is a link to the current conference
schedule if you need to check your time. Please call the office right away if you have a conflict so we can make alternate
arrangements.
2/28/2010 Thank you to all you sent in donations for the Read-A-Thon. West Elementary took in over $1000 to put toward
new books in the library!
I will be posted the conference schedule for next week once I have all the confirmation slips
returned. If you have not sent yours back, please get that turned in right away this week.

Friday is the Read-a-thon to raise money fro the West Elementary library. Be sure
to return your envelopes with any fundraising you have done.

Basic Skills continue this week. We will be testing Wednesday and Thursday. Be sure to get plenty of rest and eat a healthy
breakfast to make sure you will do your best on these tests.

1/25/2010 I sure hope this week is not as crazy as last week! Let's hope
Mother Nature gives us a break so we can have a full week of school.
Wednesday, Jan. 27 we have an early dismissal at 1
p.m.
1/19/2010 Thursday will be our school wide reading celebration for those students who have met the reading goal for this
term. Students had to read a minimum of 28 days (20 minutes each night) in order to go to the movie a the theater. Those
students who did not make the goal will have another shot at a new prize for the next term. It is important to log in your
reading minutes each night and get those logs turned in each Monday so your reading minutes can be counted!

12/20/2009 It was great to see all who could make it for our Reader's Theater performance on Friday. The students really
enjoyed sharing their work with you. For those who could not make it, we did video tape the performance. I will be sending
a copy home with students to share when we come back from vacation.
I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe Christmas.
12/13/2009 Our Christmas
Program is Monday evening beginning at 6:30 at the High School. We look forward to seeing everyone- it should be a great
program.
Friday students will be performing our holiday reader's theater at 12:30. We hope many of you can make it. We
will videotape the performance so that students may share it with those who are unable to attend.
Remember,students are

11/20/2009 Conferences will be next Monday and Tuesday afternoon. I have
posted the current schedule in case anyone has forgotten their times.
In case you haven't heard, our classroom won a pizza
party for having the most donations for the food pantry. We have also reached the ceiling in our "Caught you being good"
campaign so we will be celebrating on Tuesday with the pizza and a movie/pajama party. Congratulations fourth graders for
all your hard work!
11/14/2009 Thank you for sending in items for the food pantry drive. West Elementary brought in 1100 pounds of food for

10/24/2009 On Monday Miss Amy Gustafson will be joining
our classroom to complete her student teaching. We are very excited to have her in our room.A few of the UNI basketball
players will be joining West Elementary Monday afternoon to talk about good character and help us award the Kids of Character
and the Classrooms of Character for our Respect Pillar.
Wednesday is an early dismissal at 1 p.m.

Halloween/Fall Celebration thank you to those families you volunteered to help with that.

10/11/2009 We will begin taking our Fall NWEA tests this week. Students will be taking the Reading, Math and Language
Arts test this week and the Science test next Monday.This Wednesday, Oct. 14th is an early dismissal at 1 p.m.
It is
definitely cooler both inside the building and outside for recess. Students need to be sure to dress appropriately.
